I have a USB modem which I use to access the internet and a 160gb PS3. I would like to know the materials and procedures required to connect my ps3 to the internet.

Get a 360.
It depends on what modem you have. Try this and see if it works.
Go to Settings>Network settings ( at the very bottom)>then you’ll have 5 options, choose the one that you want. Make sure the internet says “Enabled”. Try going through the options and seeing which ones set up the internet. If this didn’t work, there is always YouTube.
If you have a normal Modem, you probably only have one connection option and it is probably being used up by your computer. So what i suggest you do is buy a wireless router or a splitter. Then buy an Ethernet cable. In the manual that come with your router they probably tell you how to set it up. After you set it up, just plug your newly bought ethernet cable in one of the LAN ports and plug the other end into your PS3. This is how you can connect with a wire.
PS3 also has wi-fi so you can also connect wirelessly. It is a confusing and lengthy process to expplain on yahoo answers so ill just give you a link that tells you how to connect it wirelesly:

ps3 only accepts ethernet cables and wireless as far as i know so if your modem has an ethernet out then plug an ethernet cable into the modem and into the ps3.
